Barnavadzh Fm

Period:
Proterozoic

Age Interval:
Neoproterozoic (Rf? br), V1

Province:
SE Tajik (Central W Pamir)

Type Locality and Naming

This is the lowermost formation in Vanch-Yazgulem Gr

Synonym: Barnavadzhskaya formation (Барнаваджская свита)

Reference section:

Lithology and Thickness

Composed of quartz-biotite, quartz-sericite, mica, sericite-chlorite shales, quartzites, and feldspar-quartz sandstones. Incomplete thickness of 1000 m. Among them, rare layers of marbles and sheet-like deposits of actinolite-epidote shales are encountered. In the lower part of the formation, quartzites and sandstones predominate, in the upper part - shales (Khamidov, 1967). In the sandstones of the Barnavadzhskaya formation, cross-bedding, wave ripple marks, and shrinkage cracks are clearly visible.

Lithology Pattern:
Sandstone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The underlying formations are unknown.

Upper contact

Regional extent

It is widespread in the western part of the Central Pamir.
